Simple yet effective step by step approach for beginners on public speaking

PUBLIC SPEAKING BEGINNERS GUIDE

STEP 1: CHOOSING A TOPIC.

Choosing an interesting topic is your first task and equally a challenge. Always go for something you are passionate about or go with a much easier choice such as incidents that happened in your day to day life or in the past.

STEP 2: WRITING DOWN THE STORY.

Make sure to write down the subject/story on a piece of paper. Don’t worry about the grammar part at this stage. In fact, penning down your thoughts helps you to remember the story much easier. Try to write it in an interesting way you talk to your friends and family members.

STEP 3: TALK TO YOUR MIRROR.

Talking to a mirror is an age-old practice. It helps you to improve your body language and boosts your confidence. Though there are quite a few contrary beliefs on practicing in front of the mirror prevails on the internet, sometimes its good to trust on age-old practices especially when you are an absolute beginner.

STEP 4: LISTEN TO YOUR VOICE.

Voice is your identity. Most of us have shuddered on hearing to our voices. If you don’t like the way you sound, you can’t expect your audience to like it either. But you should believe that you can find your voice by recording using recorder apps. There’s a ton of voice recorder apps available online these days. One such good app to kick start your voice game is Dolby On.

STEP 5: DELIVER SPEECH TO AN AUDIENCE.

After practicing all the above steps, you should start to feel comfortable and know your way around public speaking. Now its time to concentrate on the most important step, talking to real people and not to mirrors anymore. Delivering a speech in front of people creates an adrenaline rush and makes you nervous. To get used to this situation, choose one or two of your friends to deliver your speech. Remember the more, the merrier.

STEP 6: ASK FOR FEEDBACKS.

Human beings need other people’s perspectives to grow. Feedbacks help you to identify your mistakes. Let your friends say which part you did well and what could’ve been done better. Identify your weak spots and work on them. Also, it is important to realize only through consistent practice you can gently and gradually excel at public speaking.

“With a little bit of practice every day, anybody can become a persuader.”
